Zoe Kazan hails from an intimidating Hollywood family (her grandfather was the great Elia Kazan and her parents are Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord) so it's only fitting she make her mark on the film industry as well. Already an accomplished playwright at the young age of 28, Zoe has also appeared in a number of films as an actress (The Valley of Elah, It's Complicated) and she can now add screenwriter to her resume as Ruby Sparks prepares to hit theaters.

Ruby Sparks finds Dano's writer, Calvin Weir-Fields suffering in stasis since his first acclaimed novel. He snaps out of it thanks to some sage advice from his therapist, and writes about his dream soul mate, Ruby. The film turns when Ruby comes to life and Calvin finds he can control her every move with his typewriter.

We spoke with Zoe at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco about her inspiration for Ruby Sparks, her famous family, and her favorite writers and movies.
