Las Vegas Photographer Helps Raise Money For Charity With Drive-By Photo Sessions During COVID-19 Pandemic

Photographer Jerry Metellus takes commencement pictures of College of William & Mary graduate Julia Carlson spraying champagne in a park across from her home before doing a drive-by photo session of her family as part of his "Family Love in the Time of Quarantine" project for people staying at home amid the coronavirus pandemic on May 15, 2020 in Henderson, Nevada. Carlson, who was only able to have a virtual commencement on May 16 because of the coronavirus, was first photographed by Metellus when she was a baby. For his project, Metellus asks families to wait in their front yards at assigned times, ready to strike poses that sum up their quarantine experiences. He pulls up to his subjects' homes, photographs them from inside his truck with a camera tethered to his laptop so he can check the images, and then drives off. Metellus takes donations for his work on the project and gives part of the proceeds to the Las Vegas Fashion Council's Mask Task Force program, which secures materials for masks that they make for first responders and food service industry workers to help protect them from COVID-19.
