Northumbria Police Chief constable Steve Ashman leaves after appearing at PC David Rathband's family's court case against Northumbria police at Newcastle Crown Court on January 12, 2016 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. PC David Rathband was left blinded and in constant pain after being shot twice in the face by Raoul Moat as he sat in his stationary car near the A1 in Newcastle in July 2010. He commited suicide two years later at the age of 44. His family claim that PC Rathband's injuries could have been avoided had the Northumbria force issued a warning to its officers.
