1997 Honda Accord It's really good at everything. By Trish RobbOverview When you think of the Honda Accord, think of that hard-working guy in the corner of your office whose first name you hardly remember, the one who isn't really brilliant at anything but who succeeds because he can do absolutely everything quite well. That same kind of versatility is responsible for the Accord's incredible success. The Accord has redefined the family sedan by offering a near-perfect combination of...Read Full Story

2008 Honda Accord at a car show

2008 Honda Accord at a car show

Linked from: motortrend.com

In May 2006, renderings of the 2008 Accord in Japanese car magazines suggested the sedan would take many styling cues from the new Honda Civic. In December 2006, Honda showed a sketch of a soon-to-be-released Accord coupe concept. Here are the latest sedan photo for the eight generation Accord which will be launched this Fall 2007. On January 8, 2007, Honda debuted the 2008 Accord Coupe Concept at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. The car displayed styling to be used in the eighth-generation Honda Accord which will be sold as a 2008 model.

It is likely that the same model of Accord will be sold in both North America and the Pacific, as Honda is bringing the Acura brand into the Pacific, which has traditionally sourced their cars from Japanese models not sold in the US. The Acura TSX will most likely be developed using the more compact Japanese Accord as a basis, while the 2008 Honda Accord in that region will be based on the USDM model. However, if that is not the case, the USDM version of the Accord Sedan might once again be sold as the Honda Inspire in Japan. Following the previous two generations of the Acura TL, a redesign might arrive in 2009 derived from this generation of the Accord.

Unlike the previous generation that also had a hybrid variation, this generation will not have a hybrid, as they felt their "hybrid system works better on smaller cars" . Instead, Honda will offer a diesel version of the Accord, which will presumably offer better fuel economy than the regular Accord.

Honda has stated that the V6 models of the Accord will have better fuel efficiency due to Honda's Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system, which shuts off 2 or 3 of the cylinders depending on the type of driving (i.e. city driving, uphill/downhill driving, highway driving). This is supposed to increase the efficiency of the V6 models while keeping the power at 268 hp. According to the Honda press release, the Accord Coupe V6 with the 6-speed manual transmission will not feature VCM. The lack of VCM results in a decrease of 4 MPG in highway fuel economy. In addition to VCM, the new V6 model of the Accord will feature more advanced emissions control technology, and will comply with the California PZEV category. PZEV models of the Accord are automatic only. The 2008 model year also drops the 6-speed manual transmission from the sedan version.
