There is also the less characteristic valve trombone with three valves similar to a trumpet. A person who plays the trombone is referred to as a trombonist.

So I play trombone, and yeah I love it There is something about playing trombone that distinguishes you from all of the other instrument players out there. I think it is because it is the only instrument of its kinda and is so unique. The trombone is the only instrument that you play with a slide. Most other brass instruments are playing by simply pushing down different combinations of valves or rotors and for woodwind instruments, they just push down the different keys.
