Summary: Melinda Deluca was fired from her position as a sign-language teacher in December of 2005, after being arrested on two counts of forcible sexual abuse. Deluca was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student that she reportedly had "groomed" for a relationship. The case became stranger after Deluca staged an attack on herself in the summer of 2005, saying that two male teenagers assaulted her in retaliation for the relationship with the boy, resulting in injuries so severe she was airlifted to a nearby hospital. After a lengthy police investigation, she admitted she faked the incident in order to gain sympathy. She agreed to a plea deal, and was sentenced to 90 days in jail in January of 2007.
