Summary: Jennifer Lea Burton was a 39-year-old physical education teacher at Orangefield Junior High School. She turned herself into authorities in April of 2009 after being accused of having a three-month relationship with a 14-year-old female student between September and November of 2008. Burton, who is herself a graduate of Orangefield Junior High, had been teaching at the school since 2003, but was put on leave at the end of March, 2009, when authorities began investigating the case. She resigned shortly after her arrest. A grand jury has indicted her on three counts of felony sexual assault and three counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student. Felony sexual assault is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. As of this writing, Burton is awaiting trial.
