SFS TRIBUTE: ROMARIO DE SOUZA FARIA RETIRES AT 42

Brazilian Football leyend ROMARIO has announced at the age of
42 his definate retirement from football as a player, but as the saying
goes..."you may take Romario out of Football, but not the Football
out of Romario". I am sure he will continue in someway as Coach,
Commentator or National selector, in some way.

From SFS this is a small tribute & personal thanks to whom SFS
believes - personal opinion - was one of the greatest goal square
players in Football history, his 1002 goals add weight to the opinion.
Thank you Romario, thank you for your goals & best with the future.

Leave you with a video of the magic, the grace & the class. It will be
a long, long, long time before we will again see this level.

ROMARIO DE SOUZA FARIA of 41 years of age & Brazilian by
birth is part of "SFS Hall of Fame" ( see righthand side of SFS),
& is in the news for having scored his 1000 goal.
SFS has decided to give him a post for having played in 2 Spanish
Clubs - FC BARCELONA & VALENCIA CF - having reached this
milestone & for being (SFS opinion) one of the most talented
goalscorers in Football history. Here is the VIDEO of Romario
scoring his 1000 goal after taking the penalty shot:

A controversial player throughout his history, he is like Frank Sinatra, a
follower of the "I did it my way"
philosophy.
A hard person to get in on the discipline
side, his genious often made people
forget his "antics" & only talk
to remember his "supernatural" plays.

speaker, commentator & football advisor) once
describe Romario as a cartoon figure, due to hisincredible moves, dribbles, shots at goal...etc. It
was all pure magic, imagination & poetry in
motion, just like the Japanese cartoons &

However, with everthing connected to
Romario, it seems his newly acquired
1000 goal record is underdoubt,
according to FIFA official records.

According to FIFA they have accounted
928 goals, that is 72 goals short. Apparently,
they cite that these 72 goals were scored
in lower catagories & amateur games, which
do not count for them.

Official records show PELE as the all time goalscorer with 1, 281
goals, & here too exists another debate as ARTHUR FRIENDENRICH,another Brazilian who played between the 1920s-1940s scored 1,363
goals & is apparently "forgetten" about in official chronicles.

So controversy & plenty of debate. BUT WHO CARES. Independentlyof whether or not Romario has truely reached the 1000 goal landmark,
his talent, his genious & his magic is without any doubt or debate.
ROMARIO is in SFS opinion one of the greatest forwards in Football
History to have moved within the goal square area & for that reason
SFS pays tribute with this brief post.

SFS would like to attempt to start a discussion between its
readers ( knowing full well their shyness) regarding tomorrows 2 vital Champions League clashes for Spanish teams.
Just as important will be Wednesday´s Real Madrid clash
against Bayern, but SFS wishes to concentrate on tomorrowsgames.

What are your thoughts on the front page of "Mundo Deportivo"
(pictured below)?It basically says that the way to secure the needed win & qualification
against LIVERPOOL is to go all out on attack; that is, put from the
start Ronaldinho, Messi & Eto´o & think attack, attack & attack.
Do you think this will be enough to grind back Liverpool´s away goal
advantage?Has Liverpool ( & coach Benitez ) a counter-strategy?

Also, what about the other important clash between
VALENCIA CF & INTER MILAN? The 1º leg finished
2-2 at Milan & the Spanish team played well.

Any comments on how Valencia should go into this match?

What about Inter, how should they handle this clash?

VALENCIA CF - CHELSEA. A PREVIEW TO THE DECISIVE 2º LEG CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MATCH

Huge match for VALENCIA CF & CHELSEA Tuesday in the
Q/F of their 2º leg clash. The aggregate stands at 1-1 after both
teams drew at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday.

Controversial Chelsea coach Mourinho ( pictured above showing
his skills ) has commented during the latest press conference that
1º goal maybe enough for his team in order to clinch the Q/F.
In his usual "psychological war of words", he added that his team
is not the favourite & the initiative depends on the other side.

Valencia trained well & received the added surprise of recovering
MORIENTES who will be prepared to run onto the field if his
coach requires him to do so. As the image above shows ( Joaquin
with the ball) the team seemed relaxed & ready to front the task
ahead.

There is speculation on the POSSIBLE line-ups , possible, as there
exists doubts with both sides & each does´nt wish to show their cards:

Valencia: Cañizares, Miguel, Ayala, Moretti, Del Horno, Albiol,
Albelda, Joaquín, Silva, Angulo or Morientes & Villa.

Chelsea: Cech, Diarra, Ricardo Carvalho, Terry, Brdige or
Ashley Cole, Obi Mikel or Essien, Lampard, Ballack,
Wright-Phillips or Kalou, Drogba & Shevchenko.

Is Mourinho correct saying that 1º goal maybe enough?
Will Morientes play?

VALENCIA BEAT REAL MADRID FOR ALEXIS

He is the new defensive promise of Spanish Football &
currently plays for GETAFE, until 30 of June 2007.
ALEXIS, as of the 1st of July , will be a new player for
VALENCIA CF who has ( according to Sp.press) come
to an agreement ( club & player) until 2013 for a price of
6M€, plus Valencia will transfer 2 young promises - Pallardo
& Hernandez - over to Getafe.

This may surprise some, as
of last month, the talk was
that Alexis had verbally agreed
with REAL MADRID.

But Real did´nt count on Getafe,
which angered the latter & saw
this as a sign of disrespect &
arrogance.

Remember you need club permission
& player agreement , not just an OK
from the player.

Another sign of how terrible Real Madrid
is being managed this season. In theory
its a Mijatovic mistake & he should now
be hiding his "red" face with embarrasment.

Big loss for Real Madrid, a great gain for Valencia CF
