Aaron Rowand and the Philadelphia Phillies avoided a huge collapse Monday night and gained some much-needed ground on the New York Mets , whose fans are nearing the brink of suicide watch after a fourth straight loss. Rowand prevented the tying and go-ahead runs with a spectacular tumbling catch at the warning track to end the eighth inning, as the Phillies out-played the St. Louis Cardinals 13-11, damn near blowing an 11-run lead earlier in the game. "I'm telling you, you never have enough runs," says Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. The Phillies pulled within 2.5 games of the NL East-leading Mets, who committed four ... Read Full Story

The 30-year-old, All-Star centerfielder is expected to bat fifth for the Giants after spending the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies -- the last being a career Gold Glove year. The White Sox reportedly have some interest in Giants outfielder Aaron Rowand. Rowand, who his hitting .290 with 2 HR in 31 at-bats this season, is a career .283 hitter. The White Sox are looking to add a center fielder after learning that DeWayne Wise separated his shoulder in the outfield. The Giants would have to take on a serious portion of his 44 million dollar contract to make this trade happen, and at this point the Giants may not be looking to trade their vetera outfielder. A few weeks ago there was a rumor going around about a Beltran for Cano deal in the works. That rumor turned out to be nothing. I mention that rumor because this one is apparently from the same person - Frank Russo from NY Baseball Digest - so take it with a grain of salt. From NY Baseball Digest : Our sources down in Tampa have informed us that the Yankees will be exploring trade possibilities with the Giants for center fielder Aaron Rowand. It is pretty well known that the Giants are interested in upgrading their hitting, which was anemic at times last ... Read Full Story

Our sources down in Tampa have informed us that the Yankees will be exploring trade possibilities with the Giants for center fielder Aaron Rowand. It is pretty well known that the Giants are interested in upgrading their hitting, which was anemic at times last season, and the Yankees could send a package of players for the speedy outfielder. The Yankees do have pieces to trade for Rowand, ... Read Full Story

Couple questions on this one: I know Sabean came out and non officially nixed the Bradley for Rowand deal, but was that because of his disinterest in Bradley? Or his infatuation with Rowand?  If the latter, this whole post is mute and I apologize. Does anyone know the length of Pierre's contract?  I thought it was up at the end of this year which, if that's the case, would save the Giants the 10mm we owe Rowand for 2011. Is this trade doable...

If in a loss everything would have a Phillies hue, perhaps if Chase Utley would have hit a two-run home run in the late innings of Game Six, and his Reggie Jackson breaking performance could have earned him the World Series MVP in a losing cause. If the dinger was off Mariano Rivera and pulled the Phillies within a run or two of what was in reality was a 7-3 World Series clinching-victory for the Yankees... But sadly it is merely a dream not...
