Million Dollar Shoes at the Oscars

As you all know, the Oscars are coming! The Oscars are coming! Besides the red carpet fashion I am eagerly awaiting the unveiling of Stuart Weitzman’s million dollar shoes! Every year the shoe designer picks a “Cinderella” to wear his creations made of precious gems.
The first lucky girl was Laura Elena Herring who sported a mere million dollars worth of diamonds and platinum on her feet, and another $27 million around her neck in 2002…love the jewels, not so crazy about the dress.
In 2003 Stuart Weitzman canceled his shoe’s appearance, his spokesperson Jane Weitzman saying…”we pulled the ruby shoes we were planning to show off at the Oscars out of respect for those fighting in Iraq.”
In 2004 Weitzman was back with this pair of 550 carat diamond stunner’s worn by Alison Krauss…
Regina King wore the shoes to the 2005 Academy Awards. Weitzman’s creations were extra special that year since they were made out of a pair of Marilyn Monroe’s earrings!
Last year, Kathleen Bird York was the lucky girl, wearing a THREE million dollar pair of Stuart Weitzman’s shoes made from a pair of Rita Hayworth’s earrings. These lovely shoes consisted of rubies, sapphires, and diamonds. Oh my!
Unfortunately there was some controversy over the look of York’s feet…
You may be wondering, just what the heck do you do with a pair of multi-million dollar shoes, I mean it’s not as if you can wear them to the movies or anything?! My answer is simple…just enjoy them while you can! Like the multi million dollar bras Victoria’s Secret makes every year, there is no rhyme or reason to create such extravagant apparel and accessories. But don’t you wish you were wearing them?
