a 4-year-old boy from a burning building and giving him CPR until the boy began breathing again. When a fire broke out in the Bronx, Cretan was walking by the apartment building. He heard a scream from the building, and ran up the fire escape.
He rescued the boy, wrapping him in a curtain and shielding the child's body with his own from the smoke and flames. He eventually gave the boy's limp body to firefighters, who rushed the child to a nearby hospital.
