Lindsay Lohan Handcuffed, Taken Into Custody at Court Appearance

Lindsay Lohan arrives at her probation progress report hearing at the Airport Courthouse on October 19, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. Lohan was recently reassigned by her probation officer to community service with the American Red Cross after being terminated by the Downtown Women's Center for repeatedly failing to appear. Lohan was sentenced 360 hours of community service at the Downtown Women's Center and 120 hours at the L.A. County coroner's office stemming from a 2007 drunk-driving conviction and a jewelry theft conviction earlier this year. Judge Stephanie Sautner chided Lohan for missing community service shifts at a women's shelter, and reprimanded the probation department for allowing her to serve her time with the Red Cross. Sautner said the department had no authority on the matter and the Red Cross work would not count toward her court-ordered 480 hours of community service.

The judge scoffed at the notion that Lohan hadn't found the women's shelter work fulfilling. She was dismissed from the facility after failing to appear nine times. The judge also pointed out she needed to put in 16 hours of work at the county morgue before a follow-up hearing Nov. 2nd. Lohan could find herself serving up to a year and a half in jail, but no one (not even the judge) thinks her punishment will be so severe thanks to laws that keep many non-violent offenders out of lock-up.

When Lohan's lawyer offered that she missed some community service shifts because as an actress she had to work overseas, the judge shut down the argument, pointing out she's had plenty of time to fulfill her obligations. Judge Sautner was also upset that it appeared Lohan had been blowing off her court-ordered visits to a psychiatrist.

On Tuesday, Lohan took to Twitter to write: "I just want it to be known, that just because I was not followed&photographed during the times I've gone to community service, does NOT mean that I wasn't following my obligations (by going) to the court."
