Nick Santino, an actor who appeared in a few episodes of Guiding Light and All My Children, reportedly commit suicide Wednesday after being wracked with guilt over putting his beloved dog Rocco down. Santino, 47, allegedly took his own life the day after doing so, reports Us magazine.

Neighbors supposedly complained about the dog barking, but other neighbors say the dog was quiet and docile. Either way, Santino decided to have the healthy dog euthanized Tuesday, on his 47th birthday.

He was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment Wednesday, and reportedly overdosed on pills. He left behind a note: “Today I betrayed my best friend and put down my best friend. Rocco trusted me and I failed him. He didn’t deserve this.”

According to his IMDb bio, he was put in an orphanage at 5 months and bounced around foster homes until he was in his teens. He then made a life for himself and put himself though college. He went to acting school and landed a role in an off-Broadway play before landing roles on the soap operas. He also dabbled in producing and directing.
