The Top 5 Musical Moments on Television In the Past Week

(NBC)It was a perfect week for the inaugural edition of Zimbio's weekly Tunes on TV feature, which highlights the most memorable musical moments of the week on television. The most talked-about television event just happened to involve a top country singer, an old standard got a deeply depressing reworking to complement a miserably dark scene, and the world's biggest boyband hit the stage live from New York.

Here's what you should've been watching.

1. The Sound of Music Live! - NBC
American Idol alum Carrie Underwood bravely attempted to fill Julie Andrews' shoes in NBC's live telecast of The Sound of Music on Thursday, managing to emerge relatively unscathed. Relatively. Most critics agreed that the country pop cutie's singing was adequate, but that she could do with some acting lessons. She basically told her critics to get right with Jesus. But who cares: It was a mega-hit (and inspired some of the best tweets of all time). Who wants to bet producers are trying to rope Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber in for a live production of West Side Story?

2. "You Are My Sunshine" - Sons of Anarchy, FX
The penultimate episode of Sons of Anarchy's sixth season was a total doozy, with pretty much every single major character feeling betrayed beyond belief. So the inclusion of Jamey Johnson, Twiggy Ramirez, and Shooter Jennings' breathtakingly sad version of "You Are My Sunshine" was completely. Devastating. Let's hope this week's series finale ends on a slightly more optimistic note.

3. The steamy makeout song on The Vampire Diaries
The last episode of The Vampire Diaries offered one of the most memorable makeout scenes in show's five season history... and a perfectly seductive soundtrack. "My Superman" was featured on Santigold's 2008 debut album Santogold. We'd be shocked if it didn't see a sizeable sales bump over the past couple of days.
4. The Aaliyah dance on The Mindy Project.
Chris Messina's Dr. Danny gave the Secret Santa present to end all Secret Santa presents on Tuesday night's episode of The Mindy Project. It is official: Everyone has a crush on Chris Messina now.

5. One Direction's performance on Saturday Night Live
If you are a One Direction fan, it really doesn't matter what I write about this: You loved this week's episode of Saturday Night Live. Paul Rudd hosted, but it was clear from the opening monologue that everyone knew who was drawing the views. And WOW, Harry's hair. Just... Harry's hair. Silhouetted in the soft light. Sigh.
