Advice you have for anyone trying to make it in Hollywood:
Work smart not hard. Create your own passion projects so you fully utilize your creativity and talents, and aren’t playing victim to other people deciding your income and worth. Lastly, be incredibly professional and kind to work with. It’s a very small business (a.k.a people gossip) and once word gets out that you are difficult it can take years to recover from that reputation. Besides, the best in the business are always team oriented and treat everyone with respect regardless of if they are above or below the line.
Bad movie you secretly love:
Sharknado because it really truly is the worst movie I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t stop watching it and laughing out loud.
Celebrity that made you starstruck:
Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block. I saw him at a friend’s birthday party years ago and I just stood at the bar dumbfounded, mouth agape and frozen. If only he knew that when I was a pre-teen he was my imaginary boyfriend and we went on dozens of (imaginary) dates to McDonalds where we of course ordered “Happy Meals.” Ya know, for the toy!
Describe yourself in one sentence:
Paid to pretend... I do a lot, I care a lot.
Embarrassing story you are ready to share with the world:
I remember shooting a scene on General Hospital where I had to do a stunt and after several takes the assistant director calmly walked up to me and handed back my cutlets because they flew out of my bra!
Favorite character you have played:
Lynne Reed fromShowtime’s Homeland. The character was dynamic and layered. I got to dance between being both an undercover agent and in a Saudi harem. Of course, I loved working with Claire Danes! She is a kind, amazing woman, and an absolute pro. It was an honor to get to play opposite her in Season One.
GIF that accurately describes how you feel today:
Okay, it’s official, I am old and lame and have been living under a rock. I didn’t realize that those moving pics were called GIFs. So the reason this “GIF” accurately describes how I feel today is because my internal monologue is saying, ”what the hell is wrong with you?” and then my addition is, ”what the.... is a GIF!”
Halloween costume you regret wearing:
My pajamas in Vegas. While I would love to say that it was trashy lingerie, which wouldn’t be a shocker for Halloween since it’s the one time of year that every girl can dress up like a hooker and no one thinks twice about it, I was actually, literally in my PJs. My best friend and I were ready to go crazy in Vegas, she flew in from Minnesota for a brief respite from her doctorate program, and I just got back from shooting a film in Romania. We decided to meet up in Vegas and party since we both were finally single. Unfortunately, we had so much fun dancing, staying up late and being goofy the night before that when Halloween came we decided to lay around in our hotel room, order room service, wear our comfy PJ’s and chat all night instead. I kinda wish we had rallied.
Instagram account that never fails to crack you up:
@TEXTSFROMYOUREX. It is a good reminder to not be reactive when texting!
Job you would probably have if you weren't an actress:
Therapist or life coach because I love helping people realize their potential. It’s a big reason why I created “The New Hollywood,” a philanthropic goal group and 501c3 non-profit. It helps women in the entertainment industry achieve their personal and professional goals, be a positive example in the entertainment industry and, more importantly, to help others. We are currently expanding to create an LGBT branch for 2016 and we intend to inspire everyone to Rise Higher, Shine Brighter and Give Back! Karaoke song you slay:
"All That Jazz" from Chicago. It’s a show stopper!
Lisa Niles from General Hospital or Taylor Stappord from Devious Maids —who would you rather be stuck on a deserted island with?
Neither! Lisa Niles would constantly be trying to drug me or throw me down a well and Taylor Stappord would be crying all the time! I think I’d rather be alone.
Meme you are really digging right now:
If only women could just feel a guys sweater and determine if he has commitment issues or not...
'90s fashion trend you fell victim to:
I’m not gonna lie, I was thrilled when the fashion trends of the '90s faded. Looking back on those pics I don’t think anyone looked that cute. Thankfully the look is less baggy and grungy this round. Instead of oversized flannels, I’m wearing cute form- fitting ones again. I have been rocking the cropped T-shirt which is fun and sexy, but scrunchies — those are never going back on my head and wrists!
Outrageous moment you never want to relive:
Wearing scrunchies! Seriously, I block moments like that.
People or person you admire most:
Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the founder and CEO of Representation Project. She has created incredible documentaries and educational programs about gender inequality and hyper masculinity that everyone should watch. She has helped create a movement of more conscious media and advertising. She’s a powerhouse and I feel blessed to call her a dear friend.
Question you would like to ask a historical figure:
I’d talk to Jesus and Muhammad and ask them both how we can solve the crisis in the Middle East. How we can create compassion, respect and love for one another.
Revelations you have had about your Devious Maids cast:
The majority of them spend so much of their down time helping others and giving back. It’s inspiring to be around people who have so much more to offer than just being aesthetically beautiful. I love seeing celebrities genuinely using their platform to help make the world a better place.
Season finale of any TV show you are still not over:
It’s not a season finale, but I’m still not over Tyrion’s speech in Game of Thrones. Peter Dinklage is such an incredibly talented actor! Then the fight against The Giant! Incredible television!
#ThrowBackThursday. Tell us the story behind the #TBT:
My two best friends from high school had just finished their doctoral programs for psychology and we were coming upon our 10-year high school reunion where they asked everyone to include a recent picture and bio. Together we decided to dress in ridiculous costumes and get our photos taken at Glamour Shots at the Mall of America in Minnesota, and place those photos (with no explanation) on our individual pages. We were laughing our buns off the entire time during the photo shoot!
Up-and-coming band you hope blows up soon:
Laura Bell Bundy's new album. She is an incredibly talented Broadway actress/singer and a newer friend. Seriously, she’s wickedly talented!
Vine video you would like to recommend:
My cousin Jordyn showed me this Vine and I loved it because it's so goofy!
World mystery you would love to see solved:
Aliens. If they are real then perhaps humanity can stop hating each other and instead we can all hate them. I mean ideally we would all get along but I think that might take a bit more evolution.
Since we will not ask for your favorite "X-word," we will simply ask for your shameless plug here:

YouTube video you can't stop showing your friends:
This TED talk is profound and I wish I watched it when I was in my '20s.
If you didn't know Zimbio was an entertainment site, what would you think "a Zimbio" was?
A knockoff of Zumba, a new energy drink. Or, another pop culture term that I’m completely oblivious to knowing about!
