Spring/Summer 2011 Trends: Great Stripes

That's So New YorkThe upcoming season honors the classy prints trends embedding them into fabulous style creations by the most celebrated fashion designers. Spring/Summer 2011sees colorful, big, bold stripes in bold vertical, diagonal and horizontal patterns that make a dramatic statement, and nautical themes inspired by the French Riviera. You'll find the traditional (smaller) Breton stripe re worked in strong colors and cool cuts too. This season’s runways were flooded once again with the nautical trend, but the new season requires stripes updated with bright colors and asymmetric prints. Primary color mixes like yellow and navy, effervescent green and navy, orange and red take center stage, in super-sized stripes from the runways of PradaMarc Jacobs and Jil Sander. Someone can be very creative with stripes as depending on how they are positioned and the garment is cut, stripes have the power to sculpt, slim and stretch the body.

Designers such as Isabel Marant paired large-striped mini dresses with bare legs and ankle boots, Muicca Prada played with green and black varsity-type stripes on shirts and pinafore dresses, Jill Sander embraced wide deckchair stripes on her dresses, whilst Marc by Marc Jacobs opted for neon lines. Whatever stripes you choose for Spring/Summer 2011, either Breton or bold color-pops, keep accessories to a minimum. These stripes make a bold enough statement on their own. Don’t forget that striped fashion trend will cheer up your wardrobe in an instant.
