First of all I have to admit I’m a little bit of a Clint Eastwood fan especially his more recent work and directing. I won’t reveal the plot suffice to say that Clint’s portrayal of Korean War veteran, ex auto worker and racist is exemplary and very believable you really feel for him and can sympathise with his old world point of view. The supporting cast most of which are played by real Hmong people add emotion and weight to the movie. Picture quality is good with some of the outdoor scenes showing outstanding contrast. The audio quality is good, it’s not going to ... Read Full Story

WOW is about all you can say about this 78 year old actor. He has now achieved that pinnacle that most can only dream about attaining. Best known for his role as Dirty Harry, Eastwood gives the performance of a lifetime in Grand Torino. An incredibly moving story about the relationship between character Walt Kowalski (Eastwood), a retired military veteran, no nonsense kind of guy, who is a widower and wants to live out the rest of his days in peace and without interference from outsiders and Thao, a young Hmong teen who lives next door, and steals his Grand Torino as part of ... You wouldn't expect one of the oldest directors in show business to be one of the busiest, but 79-year-old Clint Eastwood just keeps on going. He released two films in three months last year, and Gran Torino earned over $150 million on the strength of Clint being Clint. A remarkable story, really, because there might be ten movie stars in Hollywood who can do that at half his age. His latest film is an ambitious story of how rugby helped Nelson Mandela heal South African bad blood after the dissolving of Apartheid. Mandela was imprisoned for over a quarter century, and soon after his ... Read Full Story

Reviewed by Cas Harlow , 29th June 2009 Gran Torino is a tour-de-force bookend to legend Clint Eastwood’s prolific acting career, taking him somewhat full circle and allowing him to show a little bit of all of the nuances that have made his characters so powerful over the years – from the scary threatening menace to the haunted past and bitter regrets, to the charm and old-fashioned finesse with which this man carries himself. The movie itself ranges from humorous to harrowing, a skilfully constructed, no-frills-directed character study full of emotional resonance and moving performances. On Blu-ray we get superior video and decent enough ... Read Full Story

Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran boxing trainer who has devoted his life to the ring and has precious little to show for it; his daughter never answers his letters, and a fighter he's groomed into contender status has paid him back by signing with another manager, leaving Frankie high and dry. His best friend and faithful employee Eddie Dupris is a former fighter who Frankie trained. In his last fight, Eddie suffered a severe injury, a fact that brings Frankie great guilt. One day, Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) enters Frankie's life, as well as his gym, and announces she needs a trainer. ... Read Full Story

Tough as old boots? Is there any kind of entry procedure for Mount Rushmore, or is it a closed shop and you have to be a long-dead president or summat? I'm just wondering, 'cos it's clear there's an argument that Clint Eastwood should be up there, something that Gran Torino backs-up in abundance. Drawing upon that legendary Eastwood persona, here we find him playing Walt Kowalski, Korean war veteran and bang-up...
