I don't know exactly what I was expecting from the announcement of who would play the lead in Alice in Wonderland for Tim Burton . I do know exactly that I wouldn't have guessed Mia Wasikowska . Nope. Probably would've lost that wager. But we've come to expect the unexpected from Burton, so it's shouldn't be unexpected that he went outside the normal channels, plucking an Australian teenager for one of the biggest roles imaginable. Why Is She Famous? Young Australian-born actress Mia Wasikowska has appeared on the acclaimed HBO drama In Treatment , and she will play the title character in the upcoming Tim Burton-Johnny Depp collaboration Alice in Wonderland . Sexiness 70 Mia Wasikowska is wise and has experience beyond her young age, but she often appears fragile, waifish and even dainty — qualities that no doubt contributed to her casting as the classic ingenue, Alice. Make no mistake, while she may not be an archetypal knockout, Mia Wasikowska’s brilliant, suicidal spin as Sophie on In Treatment demonstrated her own brand of edgy, bubbling-under-the-surface sex appeal. Success ... Read Full Story

Oh, this is some good stuff. I was a little surprised recently when the announcement came down that Cary Fukunaga, who directed the very excellent Sin Nombre, would adapt Charlotte Bronte's classic novel Jane Eyre as his next film. But I liked Sin Nombre so much that I'll watch anything Fukunaga does at this point. Especially now that he's likely to have Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender in the lead roles. Variety reports that Wasikowska...
