
The 2008 boxing competition is strickly men, but women's boxing will be introduced during the 2012 Olympics in London.
This year's competition will consist of 11 events. Light Flyweight (-48kg), Flyweight (48-51kg), Bantamweight (51-54kg), Featherweight (54-57kg), Lightweight (57-60kg), Light Welterweight (60-64kg) Welterweight (64-69kg), Middleweight (69-75kg), Light Heavyweight (75-81kg), Heavyweight (81-91kg) and Super Heavyweight (+91kg).
A national Olympic Committee can enter up to one athlete in each event. Nine places are reserved for the host nation. China will choose six places, maximum, the remaining three places will go to fighters from the Tripartite Invitiation Commission. If athletes from the host nation qualify through the AIBA World Amateur Boxing Championships, the host nation will lose a space for each qualified athlete.
Boxers must participate in qualifying events for their continental area. Each area is allotted a quota for how many athletes they can submit in each event. The continental groupings are as follows: Africa, Asia, Europe, America, Oceania, with a seperate grouping for the host country.
