I wholeheartedly agree with MTV 's assessment of the upcoming Sam Mendes comic book adaptation: "With a complicated storyline and some weighty subject matter, it’s tricky to imagine the best way to pull off a live-action Preacher ." I don't believe it can be made with pure commercial motives in mind, because you're better off just making some other comic book movie, but I do think there's a lot of hope for it artistically. Focus Features has teamed Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Prods. and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Prods. to develop a feature adaptation of Netherland , a novel by Joseph O’Neill which Harpo optioned last year when it was published.
