Shawn Johnson

Shawn Johnson is an American gymnast from the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. She was the 2007 World All-Around Champion, and the 2007 U.S. National All-Around Champion. She is also a competitor on Dancing with the Stars 2009.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A Florida man who drove cross-country to meet Olympic gold medal gymnast Shawn Johnson was ordered on Tuesday to stand trial on accusations of stalking her, but a judge dropped a charge of attempted kidnapping against the man. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Carter said prosecutors met the burden of proof for the stalking charge against Robert O'Ryan, who was arrested in March trying to get onto the set of ABC television's "Dancing with the Stars" show where Johnson, 17, was performing. A judge says there's enough evidence against a man accused of stalking Shawn Johnson for the case to go to trial. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Carter made the ruling after concluding a preliminary hearing for Robert O'Ryan, who has been jailed since his arrest in March. Authorities say he trespassed on the lot where "Dancing With the Stars" is taped and tried to contact Johnson. Olympic gymnastics champion won't be at worlds

Olympic champion Nastia Liukin won't be competing at the world gymnastics championships in October. Liukin took herself out of the mix for the U.S. team on Monday, saying she needs more time to get in shape. Liukin has spent much of the past year on the road, and returned to competition only in late July. She did one event at the national championships two weeks ago, finishing fourth on balance beam.
