ROUDHAM, England, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A century after the English ceded whiskey to the Scots and Irish, an English single-malt is going on sale -- with a label showing St. George slaying the dragon. David Fitt, distiller at St. George's Distillery in Norfolk, said the brew is already attracting attention north of the border, the Daily Mail reported. This includes angry e-mails -- one read -- but the firm says it is already shipping about 500 bottles a month north. New guidelines to protect whisky from foreign imitation, including new rules on labelling and bottling, are coming into force in Scotland. Some of the provisions: * Five categories of Scotch Whisky are defined for the first time; Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Single Grain Scotch Whisky, Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Blended Grain Scotch Whisky, and Blended Scotch Whisky. * These compulsory category sales terms will be required to appear clearly and prominently on all labels. * A requirement to only bottle Single Malt Scotch Whisky in Scotland. * A ban on the use of the term "Pure Malt". Hibiki 12 Year is a blend of more than 30 handcrafted malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries.
