Sure there's having a restaurant fail, or starting an ill-fated fashion line. But Kim Basinger did more than that. In 1989, Basinger bought the town of Braselton, Georgia for $20 million, with the intention of turning it into a tourist attraction. Financial difficulties meant that she had to sell the town of 1,206 citizens in 1993 to a developer. Shortly after, she was forced to file for bankruptcy. "Jenny from the Block" she may be, but Jennifer Lopez has had harder times making it her business ventures. She attempted to start up a restaurant, Madres, only to watch it shutter in July of 2008 after six years. Her streetwear line, Sweetface, shut down in 2009. Posh Spice knows how to pour herself into a pair of pants, but selling them? That's a different story. Victoria Beckham attemptted to to launch her own line of pricey vintage-style pants under the moniker "dVb." Sky-high prices didn't help matters, but the reason that US retailers such as Kitsons and Fred Segal ultimately dropped Beckham's line had to more to do with Victoria's failure to do enough PR work to promote the line. But the supermodel's own jewelry line was saddled with its own struggles, before it was shown the the door. A lawsuit by luxe jewelry maker Van Cleef & Arpels, claiming that Klum and her partner Pascal Mouawad was ripping off their designs, ultimately doomed the short-lived line. Heavily hyped during World Championship Wrestling's broadcasts, the restaurant was not long for this world. But the joint was critically panned (said one wag: "she left the good cooking at home"), fell into debt, and was closed by 2003.
