According to Wikipedia.org: The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is currently the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h . It reached full production in September 2005. The car is built by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS and is sold under the legendary Bugatti marque. It is named after racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm.

A bird was blamed for distracting the driver of a luxury sports car who then drove his Bugatti Veyron into the drink. La Marque police said the French-built supercar ended up in a lagoon, coming to rest in about 2 feet of saltwater. Police said the man, whose name was not immediately released, was not injured in Wednesday afternoon's accident. Police said the man had been looking at real estate in the Galveston area when he was distracted by a low-flying pelican near Omega Bay. Police say a low-flying pelican distracted a driver in Texas, causing him to veer off a road and drive his million-dollar sports car into a salt marsh. La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist says the man claimed he lost concentration while driving his French-built Bugatti Veyron on Wednesday because the bird swooped into sight. Gilchrist says the driver dropped his phone, reached down to pick it up and strayed into the brackish water in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston. There's been lots of speculation over the Bugatti Veyron lake crash, especially after the crash video and post-crash photos surfaced. Motor Trend's Mike Floyd calls it "a Zapruder film for car guys." He's right. Some reader theories below. The initial reports from the scene raised some eyebrows when the driver reportedly said the crash was the fault of a "low-flying pelican."
