Nimrod: He Was And Will Be Again.

Dragon picture
We read in Genesis 10;8-12 and 11:1-9 of how Nimrod was a mighty hunter and established cities, also being the first world leader of it all. God and his angels saw the works of this great grandson of Noah's and stopped him in his tracks. He confused the languages and dispersed the people, so this error would not occur again. Nimrod is basically a tyrant or an Anti-Christ (Just like the one will arrive on the scene after a Russian-Iran coalition led war against Israel, in which one-third of the world will be rendered useless afterwards). History always repeats itself so let's look at what Nimrod did, and the resulting aftermath. Cush was Nimrod's father and lived in Shinar, Babylon, or Sumer. There they developed the first civilization after the Flood. The sons of Shem-the Semites, were also mixed, to some extent, with the Sumerians. This system was to influence the Ancient Near East for over 3000 years. Other cultures which followed the Sumerian system were Accad, Babylon, Assyria, and Persia, from which we have the Greece and Rome's system of rule. Founded by Cush, the Sumerians were very important historically and Biblically. First, what does the name Nimrod mean? It comes from the Hebrew verb marad, meaning "rebel."  In Genesis 10:8-11 we learn that "Nimrod" established a kingdom. Therefore, one would expect to find also, in the literature of the ancient Near East, a person who was a type, or example, for other people to follow. And there was. It is a well-known tale, common in Sumerian literature, of a man who fits the description. In addition to the Sumerians, the Babylonians wrote about this person; the Assyrians likewise; and the Hittites. Even in Palestine, tablets have been found with this man's name on them. He was obviously the most popular hero in the Ancient Near East.

The person we are referring to, found in extra-Biblical literature, was Gilgamesh. The first clay tablets naming him were found among the ruins of the temple library of the god Nabu (Biblical Nebo) and the palace library of Ashurbanipal in Nineveh. Many others have been found since in a number of excavations. The author of the best treatise on the Gilgamesh Epic says, The date of the composition of the Gilgamesh Epic can therefore be fixed at about 2000 BC. Though the stories in it relate an older previous  period. The Epic of Gilgamesh has some very indecent sections. Alexander Heidel, first translator of the epic, had the decency to translate the vilest parts into Latin. Spieser, however, gave it to us "straight" ( Pritchard 1955: 72). With this kind of literature in the palace, who needs pornography? Gilgamesh was a vile, filthy, man. Yet the myth says of him that he was "2/3 god and 1/3 man."

How does Gilgamesh compare with "Nimrod?" Josephus says of Nimrod, Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah -- a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny -- seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence upon his own power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers (Ant. 1: iv: 2). What Josephus says here is precisely what is found in the Gilgamesh epics. Gilgamesh set up tyranny, he opposed YHVH and did his utmost to get people to forsake Him. Two of the premiere commentators on the Bible in Hebrew has this to say about Genesis 10:9, Nimrod was mighty in hunting, and that in opposition to YHVH; not "before YHVH" in the sense of according to the will and purpose of YHVH, still less, . . . in a simply superlative sense . . . The name itself, "Nimrod" from marad, "we will revolt," points to some violent resistance to God . . . Nimrod as a mighty hunter founded a powerful kingdom; and the founding of this kingdom is shown by the verb with vav consecutive, to have been the consequence or result of his strength in hunting, so that hunting was intimately connected with the establishing of the kingdom. Hence, if the expression "a mighty hunter" relates primarily to hunting in the literal sense, we must add to the literal meaning the figurative signification of a "hunter of men" (a trapper of men by stratagem and force); Nimrod the hunter became a tyrant, a powerful hunter of men (Keil and Delitzsch 1975: 165).  After the Flood there was, at some point, a breakaway from YHVH. Only eight people descended from the Ark. Those people worshipped YHVH. But at some point an influential person became opposed to YHVH and gathered others to his side. Nimrod is the one who did it. Cain had done similarly before the Flood, founding a new city and religious system.

The Gilgamesh Epic describes the first "God is Dead" movement. In the Epic, the hero is a vile, filthy, perverted person, yet he is presented as the greatest, strongest, hero that ever lived. (Heidel 1963: 18). So that the one who sent the Flood will not trouble them anymore, Gilgamesh sets out to kill the perpetrator. He takes with him a friend who is a monstrous half-man, half-animal -- Enkidu. Together they go on a long journey to the Cedar Mountain to find and destroy the monster who sent the Flood. Gilgamesh finds him and finally succeeds in cutting off the head of the creature whose name is "Huwawa" ("Humbaba" in the Assyrian version; see Heidel 1963: 34ff). Because of the parallels between Gilgamesh and Nimrod, many scholars agree that Gilgamesh is Nimrod. Continuing with Gilgamesh's fable, he did win, he did vanquish Huwawa and took his head. Therefore he could come back to Uruk and other cities and tell the people "not to worry about YHVH anymore, he is dead. I killed him over in the Lebanon mountains. So just live however you like, I will be your king and take care of you." There are still other parallels between the Bible and the Gilgamesh epic: "YaHVeH" has a somewhat similar sound to "Huwawa." Gilgamesh did just as the "sons of God" in Genesis 6 did. The sons of God forcibly took men's wifes. The Epic says that is precisely what Gilgamesh did. The Bible calls Nimrod a tyrant, and Gilgamesh was a tyrant. There was a Flood in the Bible, there is a flood in the Epic. Cush is mentioned in the Bible, Kish in the Epic. Erech is mentioned in Scripture, Uruk was Gilgamesh's city. Gilgamesh made a trip to see the survivor of the Flood. This was more likely Ham than Noah, since "Nimrod" was Ham's grandson! Historically, Gilgamesh was of the first dynasty of Uruk. As Jacobsen points out (1939: 157), kings before Gilgamesh may be fictional, but not likely. The fact that the Gilgamesh Epic also contains the Deluge story would indicate a close link with events immediately following the Flood. S.N. Kramer says, "A few years ago one would have strongly doubted his (historical) existence, and we now have the certitude that the time of Gilgamesh corresponds to the earliest period of Mesopotamian history". (Kramer 1959: 117). Alexander Hislop's book of the Two Babylon's speaks how after his sudden untimely death (As he was cut off suddenly by one of the God fearing decendant's of Noah!), that a religion was started to honor him in Babylon. Which was carried through all cultures in some form or another to this day! The second  'Nimrod' will be like the first in many ways. The both want to be rulers of all mankind (Both in Religion and civil domination of all peoples!) and are bloodthirsty men. Both will defy the almighty God and be overthrown by him. And finally, but not by any means concluding the simularities, despite all the encouragement and props they both will bring, they will not overthrow God's plans by any means. Take heart-though the enemies be strong and mount up to the sky, from thence will they all fall down. Be not take in, before christ's return many will fall away or be attack; many will face tribulations and many more (Not only Christians but also the unjust will perish by means of nuclear war and it's of the resulting effects of it.) will be die as Martyr's. Many will think to kill Christians, thinking they are doing God service.
The history of the beginning of mankind in the times of Noah and afterwards is just like what will happen in the tribulation and return! And Nimrod was the king of Babylon in his time. In Revelation 18:21 it says: "Then a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea saying, So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will not be found any longer." So here  Babylon will also be a part of the antichrist's kingdom, but will be destroyed. Also in Revelation 17:5 it says: "and on her forehead a name was written; a mystery, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." Babylon is suppose to represent the false religious system headed by the Antichirst. Semiramis back in Nimrod's time may of been the one who started the worshipping of gods and goddesses and many cults. Then Nimrod, as mentioned earlier, is considered by many as the founder of astrology and magic which was also practiced by Semiramis. So false religions originated in the original Babylon just like how the antichrist will originate his own false religious system! Also when it says mystery, that means Saturn, or Osiris' name. The mentioning of Babylon the Great in Revelation 17 could be another symbolism back to Nimrod and Semiramis and of course refers to the future religious system headed by the antichrist. This all shows that Nimrod's time and the future antichrist's time are both used to represent eachother. Ecclesiastes 1:9 - "That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun." Nimrod is also called “mighty hunter” (Gen 10:9; 1 Chr. 1:10). Hunter is tsayid in Hebrew, meaning venison, hunter, victuals, provision, hunting, catch, food (Strongs). This means Nimrod pursued, hunted and pushed his designs in brazen defiance of his Maker. The words “mighty hunter before the Lord” are found twice in Gen. 10:9. Repetition in any short narrative of Scripture is always highly significant. If we compare the expression with a similar one in Gen. 6:11, - “The earth also (in the days of Noah) was corrupt before God” - the impression conveyed is that this “Rebel” Nimrod pursued his impious designs in open defiance of the Almighty, hunting what he wanted and catching men in the process. The contents of Gen. 11 abundantly confirm this interpretation. In like manner, of the Antichrist it is written, “And the King shall do according to his will, and he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god (ruler), and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods” (Dan. 11:36). The devil, who possesses the Antichrist, “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Pet. 5:8)  Nimrod was a King - “the beginning of his kingdom was Babel” (Gen. 10:10. In the verses which follow in Gen. 10 we read, “He went out into Assyria and builded Ninevah, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah”, etc. (Gen. 10:11). From these statements it is evident that Nimrod's ambition was to establish a world empireNimrod was King of Babylon, which is also one of the many titles of the Antichrist (Isa. 14:4).  The ambition of the Antichrist is also to establish a world empire (1 John 5:19, Rev. 13:8, 16:14). Nimrod’s ambition was to establish a world empire. To accomplish this, two things were necessary. First, a center of unity, a city headquarters; and second, a motive for the encouragement and inspiration of his followers. This latter was supplied in the “let us make us a name.” (Gen. 11:4) It was an inordinate desire for fame. Nimrod’s aim was to keep mankind all together under his own leadership “lest we be scattered.” (Gen. 11:4)  The idea of the tower(considered in the light of its setting) seems to be that of strength—a stronghold—rather than eminence. The Antichrist is described as giving his worship to a god of forces (Dan. 11:38 KJV) or god of fortresses (Dan 11:38 NKJV). The word for forces or fortresses in Hebrew is ma‘owz meaning strength, strong, fortress, hold, forces, fort, rock, strengthen. (Strongs)  It is possible that this god of the Antichrist (though actually Satan) will be Nimrod/Marduk that Babylon worshipped as a god of fortresses. This would mean that the Antichrist is worshipping himself in a preexistent type. This would be consistent with the character of Satan. No one yet knows these things but the Nimrod typology seems consistent with this “god of fortresses”.NOnWallpaper ID 46656e of Satan’s favorite methods of attack is through rWallpaper ID 19243eligion. Satan loves religion and infuses his religion with, devil inspired, man made rules. God, on the other hand, hates man made religion. Jesus did not mince words when he expressed his disgust with the religious leaders of the time in Israel, who rebelled against God and set up a religious system based on tradition that was in direct conflict with God’s Holy Law.

Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (Matthew 15:6-9 AV)

The religious leaders of Israel set up a whole regimen of rules and traditional practices and in doing so had ignored the wishes of God.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. (Matthew 23:22-28 AV)

The scribes and Pharisees slaved and worked in order to gain followers, but because their religion was not of God but was created by men, not only did their followers end up in hell but so did they.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. (Matthew 23:13-15 AV)

Just as Satan did with the Jews, he has so done today. Only today Satan has created a religion that is a counterfeit to Christianity.imrod obviously had an inordinate desire for fame, which is also consistent with archeological finds bearing his image. His consuming desire was to make for himself a name. imrod obviously had an inordinate desire for fame, which is also consistent with archeological finds bearing his image.
