After studying at Manhattan's School of Performing Arts, Hunter College and the Actor's Studio, Barkin became a notable actress in the 1980s, appearing in several successful films, including the thriller Sea of Love, opposite Al Pacino. Most of her recent appearances have been in supporting roles and in made-for-television films. Currently she voices the start of each Theme Time Radio Hour with host Bob Dylan on XM's Deep tracks.
