Even though A Christmas Carol didn't earn as much money as it was expected to, there was still big box office news over the weekend. The probable Best Picture nominee Precious only played in 18 theaters and still nearly made two million bucks. That's a record. We're also getting to the end of the decade, which means a lot of lists you're sure to disagree with. And we found one of those on Saturday. Also, Natalie Portman talks about her upcoming Black Swan lesbian scene, and Peter Berg's Battleship might be attacked be...aliens. Sigh/head shake. Should this news turn out to be true and a movie version of Micronauts happens, I'm pretty glad J.J. Abrams would be involved. The Wall Street Journal says Abrams is in talks to produce a film based on the old Japanese interchangable toys - a precursor to Tranformers, Go-Bots , and Alexis Arquette. Hasbro recently acquired the property, and we know that Hasbro has put itself on the forefront of this whole toys n' games movie tie-in business. While I don't want to necessarily take this one to the bank just yet, it's a powerful combination of a company on the move and filmmaker ... Read Full Story

It seems that the director of Tom Cruise’s last mission won’t helm his next one. We had known for sometime that JJ Abrams was going to produce the next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. According to MTV , Abrams won’t likely be on board to direct the film though. “I’m producing with Tom,” he said recently. “My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie.” Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are currently writing the script . Meanwhile Abrams was also asked of the rumors that a younger actor might step into star, but he of course didn’t reveal ... Read Full Story

That’s according to the man himself. Speaking to MTV , “ Mission: Impossible III ” and “ Star Trek ” director, J.J. J.J. Abrams tells MTV he's probably not going to direct the next Mission: Impossible movie, currently being written by Josh Applebaum and André Nemec . We previously learned that J.J. would produce, along with Tom Cruise , but the Star Trek director and Lost, Alias, Felicity , and Fringe co-creator says he probably won't be available to perform the same duties he did for M:I 3 . "I'm producing with Tom," he said recently. "My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie." Other things almost certainly include the next Star Trek , which might make Abrams the first ... Read Full Story

What If I told you that Wil Wheaton appears in JJ Abrams' Star Trek? You'd probably say that you didn't believe me. Heck, we saw the movie, twice even, and didn't see or hear a not-so-young anymore Wesley Crusher at all, not even in the corner of the screen. Or at least we thought that was the case. It had remained a highly guarded secret until this week when Wheaton blogged about his experience providing his voice for the Trek reboot: "Back...

With their now expected levels of secrecy and sneakiness, it seems that JJ Abrams and Bad Robot are already deep into bringing a mysterious movie called 500 Rads to the screen. At least that's if it will be called 500 Rads and this isn't just some kind of hazy-fantazy codename. The leaked information so far pegs the film at a sweet little $25 million budget and alleges that production will take place...FirstShowing.net (subscribe) : J.J...
