A community portal about John Travolta with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: John Joseph Travolta is an American actor, singer and entertainer. After dropping out of Dwight Morrow High School after his junior year, Travolta moved to New York City to get a job as a performer. He landed roles in the touring company of Grease and on Broadway in Over Here! singing the Sherman Brothers' song "Dream Drummin.'" Travolta also cut singles for a local record company, but the songs were quickly forgotten. But eventually, he moved to Los Angeles, California to further his career in show business.

Autism and Denial

The New York Post has been the next media source to focus on the concern that John Travolta and Kelly Preston's son, Jett Travolta age 15, has Autism .

For many years now, there have been rumors about the Travolta's being in denial about their son's Autism, relying on their religion to address the situation. According to Scientology teachings, Jett has been given the status of "degraded" where the church says he can cure himself by working harder on the church's teachings. The Travoltas deny that Jett has Autism, claiming that their son's condition is Kawasaki syndrome, a disease characterized by high fever, skin rash and swelling of the lymph nodes.

I feel sad about this because there are some treatments for Autism that would not involve medication - something Scientology disdains. For example, Applied Behavior Analysis would be helpful. But the religion denies the existence of any mental/neurological disorders, so it seems that nothing will be done for this boy.

Of interest, is that Travolta's older brother, Joey Travolta , produced the widely acclaimed documentary Normal People Scare Me - a film about how autistic people see the rest of the world. The documentary was directed by Taylor Cross, an autistic 17 year old film-maker.

There are many high profile individuals who have brought light to Autism. Actors like Sylvester Stallone, Laura San Giacomo, Joe Mantegna, Gary Cole, Holly Robinson, Ed Asner, Aidan Quinn and Jenny McCarthy have spoken openly about their own children who have Autism. Famous athletes Doug Flutie and Dan Marino have Autism foundations. The Australian band The Vines singer, Craig Nicholls, has brought light to Asperger's - and singer Toni Braxton was just named the National Celebrity Spokesperson for the advocacy organization Autism Speaks .

sad tragedy for jet such a nice kid i heard they should kept a close watched for him while he was in the bath room well hes in a better place now and will be looking down oh his dad and mom. only the good die young R.I.P JETT TRAVOLTA 16 years old
Who can say 'where he is now'. He was not taught about God, being saved, and going to heaven. Such a tragic loss.
My fourteen year old autistic daughter died in similar circumstances. My heart goes out to the family who will be dealing with the worst thing you can go through, losing a child. I am not a Scientologist but maybe they were just trying to be optimistic about their sons condition which isn't cured no matter what treatment is given. I am sure they loved their son and gave him their full attention. My daughter died while I was in the next room so neglect has nothing to do with it.
religion or not... we are Americans that have the RIGHT to live the way we want. DO NOT pass judgment for one day it will be your turn and you will be judged by whomever you believe will judge you. Live your own life... for it may be tomorrow that you are gone. my prayers r with the travoltas
I am a Christian and I agree with sweets 420. We live in a free country where people can choose their own form of worship. I thank God for that right. Jett had the unconditional love of his parents and sister and family and friends for his time here on earth. He was enjoyed, loved and protected. We should be so concerned with all of our children. I hope and pray that the Travoltas will be able to find comfort in the knowledge that the love they have between them and Jett will never end. Love never ends.
Shelea you might want to do some fact checking as well... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0871456/bio
I immediately noticed the "toe walking" on this photo. This is one of the signs of autism.
Is it just me, or would anyone else be concerned if your child enters the bathroom and does not come out after, uh, lets say 30-45 minutes. Let alone, almost 12 hours!?! Aside from the fact that it is suspect whether he is even taken meds to control the seizures, why did no one bother to wonder where he was from Thursday evening until late Friday morning? Maybe if he had been found sooner he could have been saved. Let this be a lesson to all of us, if your child is in the bathroom for hours upon hours, it wouldn't hurt to knock on the door and make sure he is ok.
well maybe he did ballet!!!
ima comment this again because this is a really bad tragedy that he died even no he was diagnosed with autism he had no clue what was going on but my question is why wasn't his dad with him wen he fell i mean if it was my i would be with him the whole time like a hawk. poor kid just trying to have a good time in the Bahamas he will be missed so much they should make a movie on this
if it was my son***
My deapest condolences to the Travolta family. May your son rest in peace
hey iron woman... i'm not crude enough to suggest in writing what you can go do to yourself. he was an innocent child, regardless of what YOU believe it's not his fault what he was taught or not taught or what he was even capable of understanding. What do you MEAN 'where he is now'???? He's dead and OF COURSE he's with God... why would you have faith in a God who would turn his back on an innocent, disabled child? The more important factor is whether or not he was receiving needed medications, needed therapies, and needed supervision. Which, obviously, he wasn't. I'm a nurse with autistic children - they are consistently wonderful and amazing people, but they need a high level of supervision for behavioral and seizure disorders. The Travoltas should have been able to provide that, you'd think. I'd say this will be the thing to blow the lid off how evil this cult is but I know it won't be - they'll keep getting away with everything, forever.
Scientology also bans the use of all psych drugs, which include anticonvulsants. News reports are saying now that Jett had seizures all his life, which causes brain damage! And these people did nothing to treat that poor child??? Oh wait, they had him AUDITED..
OK. Condolences to the Travoltas. Now lets concentrate on a dumbass "religion" (cooked up by an author of BAD sci fi) that denies the existence of mental disorders. We all know about Travolta's fellow scientologist Tom Cruise and his bizarre demonstrations of his beliefs as per psychological remedies for very real emotional distress. It is time to hold these scientologist ninnies responsible for the damage, and death, caused by there idiot ideas. This is not a 1st amendment issue; it is a human right sissue/.
How come when RICH CELEBRITIES abuse their children...not giving them proper medical treatment, calling them "degraded"and hiding them away like an "attic child" of olden days because they have a mental illness, leaving a child who is prone to seizures alone in a bathroom for 12 hour stretches...Hmmm, I wonder what would happen if the rest of us peasants did this? DCF at the door with an order signed by a judge to REMOVE the child to foster care! That's what! These people make me SICK! The wealthy in this country get away with, well...MURDER!

Wow - so many harsh words, especially to a family that we do not know and have suffered an enormous loss. I am a christian home schooling mother of 4. Though I believe our medical society has many successes, I also believe they have equal failures. Many of the immunizations that we have our medical professionals give our innocent children are now suspected to be causes of autism. This is a choice. I choose to have my children, and I choose to do what I feel is in their best interest. People question the love this family had for their son based on their religious beliefs? Come on people. If you were to speak from your hearts and not from your minds, surely you would see the wrong in the words so many have choosen. These are two people who have had a major loss in their family. Period. For reasons no one understands. Don't judge their parenting. Unless you are one of Jett's parents, you simply don't have enough information. I obviously don't believe in Scientology - but I do believe a parent has the right to make a decision for their children based on what they feel is best by them. The fact that this family choose to not enforce meds to assist in their child's autism is purely their choice and I would not consider it to be murder.
This really is sad. I'm only fifteen but I've been woken up to the tragedy of young deaths, a friend of mine committed suicide, only fourteen. I know this is obviously not under the same circumstances, but just to think of someone dying so young it really, really, tragic. I think some of the articles are maybe missing a piece. I know at people.com, an article says how John said goodnight to Jett on that thursday evening and then on friday at 10am the nanny, caretaker, whatever, found him unconscious in the bathroom. I do NOT think that when John said goodnight to Jett that he was getting in the shower. I think that when Jett got up the next day, he got in the shower. It would truly be ridiculous for them to not notice that he was in the shower for that long. John truly loved his son, there is no way that there would be such neglect towards Jett. When John was on Ellen a few weeks ago, Ellen was talking about his daughter, and they displayed a pictured on all the screens in the studio of their family, John, Kelly, Jett, and Ella Bleu, and John turned around and saw the picture and said "aw, there's my babies.." while he smiled and gazed at the picture for several seconds. There is no doubt that he truly loved his son. And I don't think there should be any criticizing of John or Kelly. Especially to those of you who have lost a child, how dare you? YOU know what the pain is like, YOU know the guilt that is felt. Don't start criticizing or condemning unless or until something comes up in he autopsy that's suspicious. I give my greatest sympathy to their entire family.
How does anybody know that this boy was not being treated for what ever was wrong with him. They did not have to tell anybody what was wrong with there son that is there private life not any of our business. They obviously loved there son very much
How do we know that this boy was not being treated for what he had. The Travolta's do not have to tell anybody about there private life. They seemed to have loved there son very much.My prayers and thoughts are with them
MIS MAS SENTIDO PESAME A LA FAMILIA TRAVOLTA POR EL FALLECIMIENTO DE SU HIJO JETT TRAVOLTA.
This is a terrible tragedy and is not the time to lay blame with his parents. My prayers are with the Travoltas. A close friend of mine lost her son in Iraq two years ago as well as my mother lost her first born (my sister) to ovarian cancer in 2007 at the age of 54. I know what they went through and this is a terrible, terrible thing. It's something that you never get over. You just go on, but you never get over it.
i am so very sorry for the less of jett. my prayers are with you. i have lost my first born and that was the hardest thing i have even endured.he lived for 4 hrs and died in my arms when i was 17. he would be 19, he was born without kidneys and a bladder. i can feel your pain in some ways. i bet he was the most wonderful little boy, he had wonderful caring parents. god had another plan for him and i know that dosent help now but keep your faith and jett is your angel. he took the love you had for him and he will be with you always
I am the mother of a child with a undiagnosed neurological disorder, and I am outraged at all you armchair neurologists labeling this child with Autism. What do you really know about it? My first tip off that this child probably was not Autistic is a number of photos with him looking and smiling at a person or a camera. Typically significant eye contact rules out Autism. Walking on tip toe is related to a long list of neuro. disorders, many of which are very difficult to diagnose. This family admitted this child had developmental issues, which is more than they needed to do. You judgemental voyeurs should spend years of your life going to pediatricians, neurologists, and geneticists and you will learn that there is a lot to brain development that medicine can't address. Leave these people alone and keep your ill informed opinions to yourselves.
