Michael Phelps (born June 30, 1985) is the most successful Olympic athlete. After the 2008 Beijing Olympics the swimmer walked away with a total of 8 gold medals, breaking the previous record held by swimmer Mark Spitz. In 2009, Phelps was photographed smoking from a bong and the photo was released to the tabloids. When I was in college, I got a summer job working in Olympic National Park . During that time I became acquainted with one of the dumbest men on the planet . He was a ranger , who had gotten his job through hackism—his father was some kind of big political contributor. Anyway, there had been a late Spring snow storm in the mountains. YouTube has set up our Olympic heroes to fail.  They started the Best of the US Challenge with some of our best Olympians to have them try to complete tasks that are not in their athletic expertise.  For Michael Phelps, clearly, that was making five foot putts on a gymnasium floor. Phelps had 60 seconds to see how many five-footers (or what I like to call Mickelsons) he could make.  As you'll see, some of the bong resin got in the way...

I’ve been swimming for a couple of summers now, working ardently on my technique and cardio, and I’m still incredibly slow. So slow, in fact, that Michael Phelps could swim 500 m, get out of the water, order a hamburger, and read the morning news before I cross the same distance. Speed putting, however, is another matter. Not that I, personally, would be any better at it, but perhaps some of you could beat Phelps in that particular discipline...

Earlier this month, one of our most decorated Olympic swimmers, Michael Phelps, rewarded the students and staff at Wiley Middle School in Leander Texas for holding a unique and successful book fair…as the first place winners in the Spring 2009 National Middle School Contest, they won a visit from Michael Phelps and a $2,000 shopping spree for books.
