Robert John Downey Jr. is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning American actor and sometimes, musician. His breakout role was a movie called Less Than Zero, where he played a high-society yuppie burnout – the movie was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Or so it seemed for a while. He eventually cleaned up and starred on the television series Ally McBeal as well as in a number of supporting and lead film roles, including the blockbuster smash, Iron Man.

This is the third trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes movie , opening on Christmas Day 2009, and starring Robert Downey Jr. as the title sleuth, Jude Law as Dr. Watson, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, and directed by Guy Ritchie. I like Downey and McAdams a lot, but the trailer’s mix of high-impact action and comedy seems like it could be really good or really, er, not good. For my money, Jeremy Brett is still the best Holmes, though I know Basil Rathbone has his fans and there’s an intriguing Peter Cushing version coming out this December. —David Read Full Story

Hollywood loves money. So does Ebenezer Scrooge. So what better way to launch the holiday season than putting the old money-grubber at the head of the line to separate movie-goers from their cash? The latest version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" features Jim Carrey as Scrooge. Coming on Ebenezer's coattails will be everything from vampire romance ("The Twilight Saga: New Moon") and end-of-the-world stories ("2012," "The Road") to epic science fiction ("Avatar") and a new incarnation of the world's greatest detective ("Sherlock Holmes"). Presented in 3-D, "Disney's A Christmas Carol" is the latest from Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis ("Forrest Gump"), who presents Dickens' ... Read Full Story

- - - - - - I've been reading a couple of movie blogs and finding out what's their take on the latest Sherlock Holmes trailer. One of the most intriguing just got to be Movieline's post, which I'm quoting below: It's been a long, interesting ride for the Sherlock Holmes promotional campaign, which began with a shot of Robert Downey Jr stripped to the waist and now finishes with a final trailer full of homoerotic banter. "This is not your father's Sherlock Holmes!" the trailer cries. "Did your father's Sherlock Holmes flirt with Watson all day? Did he sublimate his sexual urges for ... Read Full Story
