While
Ben Folds fans can get a mild fix watching the singer host
The Sing-Off or perform solo across the country, the diehards have been longing for a reunion of the band that launched Folds into public consciousness. Ben Folds Five called it quits back in 2000, and over the last decade or so have shared the stage only once. Luckily, we can expect three new songs out the band for an upcoming compilation called
The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective, a project that has laid the groundwork for a full-fledged reunion, complete with a potential new album.
Folds joined up with drummer Darren Jessee and bassist Robert Sledge to fill out their retrospective with three new songs ("House," "Tell Me What I Did," and "Stumblin' Home Winter Blues"). The sessions went so well and generated such a world of ideas that the three have plans to pick up things back up in December. As Folds puts it, "We really found ourselves very interested in making another sound. The nice thing about not being on the treadmill anymore as a band is if we go in and it's great, then great. If it's not great, we can check out and come back later."
Here's to hoping they keep their stride. As far as
The Best Imitation of Myself comp, fans can get their hands on the 71-song, three-disc set on October 11.
