Mangano Community Outreach Event A Success

Last week, Legislator Ed Mangano hosted a community meet-and-greet at his campaign headquarters. The outreach party was organized by the Facebook group Citizens for Mangano, a network of young adults concerned about the direction Nassau County has taken these past eight years. It was a celebration of pizza, soda, and fresh ideas.

The night was a resounding success. Residents from all corners of Nassau County assembled to demonstrate their support for Legislator Mangano. Also present was a large contingent of college students from a variety of local schools, including Hofstra, Adelphi, and St. John’s. When asked to comment, Facebook group creator Peter F. DiSilivio exclaimed that the outpour of support was hardly a surprise. “Nassau County is suffering a growing structural deficit. It comes as no bombshell that young people, who will ultimately foot the bill, want to reintroduce fiscal discipline into county governance.”

Legislator Mangano also touched upon several other concerns articulated by these young residents, namely the broken tax assessment system, the Home Energy Tax, and the buildup of local jobs. When questioned about the development of the Long Island Lighthouse Project, Legislator Mangano responded, “When I began to take office, the defense industry downsized … jobs were lost [at Grummans] … but I, along with concerned residents and workers of every level of government, regardless of party …  returned 15,000 jobs to that property. We didn’t need a camera; we didn’t need the big photo-op; we got the job done. We would be sitting in a new arena now if I led Nassau.”
