Professional pedis are glorious, but hitting the spa every week isn't an option for many. So, what is a toe-baring gal to do? Get a salon-worthy pedicure at home, of course.
Here's how to get the best spa-like home pedicure:
1. Remove all your nail polish before beginning. Acetone and alcohol-based removers are the most efficient, but they can be drying. Use them to remove dark colors only, and switch to acetone-free for lighter hues.
2. Trim nails straight across to prevent ingrowns. The best bet is to invest in a toenail specific clipper. Finish by filing nails in one direction with an emory board or glass file.
3. Soak feet in a flat-bottomed tub filled with warm water. To create a spa-like experience, add in bath salts, aromatherapy oil or epsom salt, then soak for 10 minutes. Try adding one-half cup of milk to your foot bath; the lactose will help loosen dead skin.
4. Exfoliate with a foot scrub or pumice stone. Concentrate on the balls and bottoms of your feet. Don't scrub too hard—if your foot turns red, you've done too much!
5. Heat some lotion in the microwave—careful not to let it get too hot—then generously slather it on and massage it into your legs.
Finish off with your favorite polish.
