Russ Feingold (D-WI) slammed the special deals President Obama and the Democratic leadership cut with recalcitrant senators down the stretch. "The Senate health care bill is far from perfect," Feingold said in a statement backing the bill. "I am deeply disappointed it does [...]

Democratic Senator Russ Feingold:Unfortunately, the lack of support from the administration made keeping the public option in the bill an uphill struggle. In all fairness here, it's not like Feingold threw down the gauntlet either. Without his vote, the bill can't pass. But we never heard any of the liberal Senators saying definitely that they wouldn't vote for this without the public option, etc. So it's not a surprise that they got rolled...

BLITZER: Quite a few of the president's fellow Democrats are rather skeptical right now. Some are even downright opposed to his new war plan. Let's talk about this with Democratic Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin. He's a key member of both the Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee. Did I get that right, Senator? SEN. Back in June Senator Feingold said he was "not interested passing health care reform in name only." He called a strong public option "fundamental" to reform. The Lieberman Bill (i.e. the current "reform" bill under consideration in the Senate) is a travesty, shown by Howard Dean and many others to be much worse than anything Senator Feingold could have imagined in June. Go here to tell the Senator to vote against the bill.Below is Feingold's...

Senator Feingold released a statement today blaming the Obama administration for the loss of a public option in the health care reform bill. Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold in Support of the Senate Health Care Bill Sunday, December 20, 2009 I’ve been fighting all year for a strong public option to compete with the insurance industry and bring health care spending down. I continued that fight during recent negotiations, and I refused to sign onto a deal to drop the public option from the Senate bill. Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) has made a change up on the health care bill which had a 60-40 test vote pass in the Senate. Feingold had said he would only approve reform if it included a public option. The current bill does not. Senator Feingold released a statement saying that was a tough pill to swallow, but he’s backing the bill anyway. Feingold said the cost of inaction is too high and he will continue to push lawmakers drafting the final compromise version of healthcare reform, to put the public option back ... Read Full Story

Russ Feingold has now said that Democrats will not filibuster a compromise on what the Democrats call the domestic spying program but is rightly called the foreign surveillance program. Russ Feingold still claims that this program infringes on the rights of the American people but he is unwilling to do anything about it. Why? Because he is full of shit. Instead of filibustering this bill he says Democrats just plan on making it difficult to pass, although it will pass. Russ Feingold and the Democrats will put on a dog and pony show to try to appease their far left constituents all the while ... Read Full Story

The White House Wednesday demanded accountability over atrocities in Darfur, after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Sudan's President Omar al-Beshir. President Barack Obama's spokesman Robert Gibbs also gave a sharp warning that any violence against civilians or foreign interests as a result of the unprecedented warrant against a sitting head of state would not be tolerated. US officials would however not be drawn into saying whether they believed Beshir had been guilty of war crimes. "The White House believes those that have committed atrocities should be held accountable," Gibbs told reporters. "We would urge restraint on the part of all ... Read Full Story

U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) wrote the following: Congress should pass legislation to require the administration to alert Congress when the law created by Justice Department opinions ignores or even violates the laws passed by Congress, and to require public notice when it is waiving or modifying a published executive order. Congress and the public shouldn’t have to wonder whether the executive branch is following the laws that are on the books or some other, secret law. Nobody knows what the president is going to do in Afghanistan, not even the president. He is too busy golfing and playing basketball to make a decision concerning Afghanistan, but Russ Feingold is making preparations just in case Obama does decide to heed General McChrystal’s warning that we need more troops over there or the mission is lost. Russ Feingold is moving towards blocking a troop surge in Afghanistan if that is what Obama decides to do. I have to give him credit for one thing, at least he is consistent. He opposed the troop surge in Iraq when Bush was president and now ... Read Full Story
