CBS News said in a statement a U.S. Army vehicle carrying McCormick was hit by an improvised explosive device Friday while traveling through Afghanistan's Logar Province.

McCormick, who was in Afghanistan on a CBS Radio News assignment, was stabilized through surgery at a field hospital before being transported to Bagram Air Base in the Parwan province, the report said.

Specific details of her injuries were not reported.

McCormick was covering the ongoing violence in Afghanistan as well as the country's recent elections. She previously had several assignments in Afghanistan, as well as Iraq, since joining CBS Radio News in 1998.
