Robert Rodriguez, the renegade film director now based out of Austin Texas, cut his teeth on horror films with twist of the comics culminating in Sin City. He has a distinct, rapid-shot style, and low-budget is his middle name. Often teaming up with Quentin Tarantino (Zimbi-it), his latest film is one of a double feature with Tarantino, Grindhouse, harkening back to the grindhouse films of the '70s. Rodriguez' contribution to Grindhouse, Planet Terror, is about a brain-eating virus that he claims has a basis in real military weaponry.

Grindhouse (2007) By Marilyn Ferdinand Quentin Tarantino’s love of film genres, particularly those of the 1970s, is well known to film fans. Robert Rodriguez is no stranger to low-budget, high-action films; he has something akin to a grindhouse aesthetic. The two writer/directors first teamed up on the wildly inventive and entertaining vampire Western From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). My partner and I had thoroughly enjoyed Planet Terror when we finally got around to watching it but given the somewhat lesser reviews for the other half of the Grindhouse double-feature, Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof . Death Proof is essentially the story of Stuntman Mike ( Kurt Russell ), a sadistic former stuntman who preys on young women using his ...

Like most other fanboys, I have a healthy appreciation for the works of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez . They have certainly developed a flair with rather violent movies that act as an homage to a very specific cult-favored sub-genre of film making. From Dusk Till Dawn was one of their earlier collaborations and pretty much a precursor to their most recent, double-feature project, Grindhouse. It had all the usual stuff - very wordy dialog, excessive blood and fairly big ticket actors here and there but in comparison to their other works, I can't quite call this one of my favorites. From Dusk Till ...
