The review is in.  My review that is, on the book, Solemate:  Master the Art of Aloneness & Transform Your Life by Lauren Mackler . I have been reading this book sent to me for the purpose of doing a review and wanted to share it with my readers here.  Some books I get like this, I don’t recommend and won’t post about them.  But this one – I do recommend you read it – especially after divorce.  However, others whether single or happily married, can glean from the information about ‘finding yourself’ as well.   This book outlines a process for not only finding ... The last few days have been pretty emotional for me. On Wednesday, my ex-husband and I met at Family Court for Mediation. Just before we were called in for our appointment, my boyfriend sent me a text from the airport. He should have been boarding a plane to San Diego, but instead, he was in line trying to get on another flight since his had been canceled. I felt helpless in so many ways. It was a bittersweet experience for me when, less than an hour later, my son’s father and I came to an agreement regarding custody of our nearly 6-year-old son. It ... Read Full Story

Yup, he’s finally reached that stage where he doesn’t want to go down for naps. Hopefully just a phase, but this weekend, Holden just wouldn’t go down for a nap! I’d put him in his crib (had to lower it to the bottom-most setting too!) and he’d immediately flip over and start wailing. I let him raise his racket for a bit, knowing that he’d fall asleep eventually (especially since he was asleep before I put him in his crib)! But eventually his wailing reached the frantic hoarse panic-mode that all parents are familiar with. I think that wail is designed to reach into ... Read Full Story

By now, questions have begun to arise regarding yesterday's story of the 6-year-old Colorado boy, Falcon Heene, who was thought to have been whisked away in his family's homemade helium balloon. For several hours, authorities feared he was inside the balloon. Then, when the invention finally came to rest on the ground--empty--those fears grew. Had the boy fallen out? Where was he? And, more importantly, was he alive? Of course, today, we...

Have you ever noticed that when you're feeling down, it helps to help someone else? I really believe that's true--not just in the sense of recognizing that others are having just as hard a time, if not more, raising teenagers, or coping with a sleepless infant--but because when you share what you've learned along the way, you're affirming that what you've gone through has been worth something. It's shaped you into the person you are today...

"Daddy, Mommy is so unfair! She never lets me use the TV, ever." "Mommy, Daddy is so mean. He yelled at me, and made me go to bed 15 minutes early again." Sound familiar?
