In 2006, Forbes ranked Tom Cruise as the most powerful celebrity in the world. That may have been two years ago, but not too much has changed: Cruise still easily commands about $25 million per movie, and he's said to be one of the few producers who can actually guarantee the success of a billion-dollar movie franchise. Not bad. As for Katie, she made only $250,000 for her last film Mad Money, but money-making isn't her main priority. She passed up a role in The Dark Knight (which would have paid $2 million) to do Mad Money. In terms of accolades, Tom has been nominated for three Academy Awards and won three Golden Globes. Since Katie hasn't made it onto any awards lists, Cruise is carrying this couple in the "Success" category.

Attractiveness.
Cruise gained quite a bit of attention from the ladies in his heyday (remember him dancing in his briefs in Risky Business?) Still, that was 20 years ago, and although Tom's in great shape, time does take it's toll. The fact that he stands at 5' 7" doesn't help, especially when Katie towers over him at film premieres at a statuesque 5' 9". For her part, Holmes stole our hearts as the love-struck Joey Potter in Dawson's Creek, but in the span of a few years she's developed from girl-next-door cute to fashionista sophisticated, and pictures of her chic bob have landed in the hands of many a hairstylist in the past year.

Even though the public opinion of Cruise has fallen in the past few years (thanks in large part to his staunch beliefs about Scientology and an incident on Oprah's couch, see video below), TomKat has kept their audience interested. About 823,000 people searched Google for info on Tom last month, and around 550,000 searched for Katie. Paparazzi practically permanently staked out their New York apartment hoping to snap shots of the Cruise family coming and going. All in all, these two are in our top 25 couples for popularity.

Staying Power.
Like it or not, these two are serial Hollywood daters with a track record. Cruise was married to both Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, and he dated Penelope Cruz. Holmes dated Dawson's Creek costar Joshua Jackson and was engaged to Chris Klein before she met Tom in 2005. Add those lists to the 16-year age gap between the couple, and there's reason to believe there could be more A-listers in the future, but no time soon. For the moment, they seem content to keep little Suri in a stable, Xenu-loving home.
