The Tegaderm dressings can be simple, self adhesive dressings which can be applied on wounds; the type of wound and the amount of secretions that a wound exudes can vary and accordingly, Tegaderm has a wide range of dressings applicable.

Some types of Tegaderm dressings available

3M Tegaderm Hydrocolloid Dressing is a non surgical wound dressing. This is ideal for wounds which need to be protected from water, bacteria, viruses. The transparent cover lies above an impermeable membrane and hence is ideal for covering wounds.

3M Tegaderm Film Transparent Dressing - Flat Film is required for wound dressing in difficult areas. The flexible shape of this dressing allows one to shape and change the dressing as per the wound size.

3M Tegaderm Ag Mesh Dressing with Silver is a mesh type dressing. This Tegaderm dressing can act as a cover on other absorbent dressings and is an affordable, multipurpose dressing with antimicrobial protection. 3M Tegaderm Alginate Ag Silver Dressings have additional absorbent properties which prevent wounds and their secretions from being exposed to infection.

3M Tegaderm Hydrogel Wound Filler is a unique product from Tegaderm whereby, the hydrogel can be used to provide a moist condition for wounds to heal faster.

Thus, as we can see, Tegaderm dressings come in many forms and categories, each designed to cover and protect different types of wounds. From surgical to non surgical wounds, catheter sites and so on, Tegaderm can provide dressings for very medical need.

Correct application of Tegaderm dressings required

However, Tegaderm dressings need to be applied properly on wounds. Since each type of dressing has it’s own unique property, the instructions on how to apply every type of dressing needs to be followed. Incorrect application of dressings can cause inflammatory reactions on skin. If a dressing is stretched too much while applying on a wound or applied before the alcohol or chlorhexidine has dried on the skin, it may cause irritation, inflammation or burning sensations.  Such side reactions on skin can be avoided by careful application of the dressings.

When using Tegaderm dressings, ensure that trained medical personnel are assisting in dressing a wound. Incorrect application can lead to complications and may further irritate a wound area. If properly applied, Tegaderm dressings fasten up the healing process of most wounds.
