In late 2009, he was the highest paid soccer player, as he got $132 million to sign on with the Spanish team. He is also known as Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is to resume group training on Friday, several weeks after suffering an ankle injury, the club said. The world's most expensive player could therefore be ready to join the squad to face FC Zurich in the Champions League on November 25, before playing in the "clasico" match at Barcelona four days later. Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is to travel to Portugal Tuesday to undergo medical tests to determine his fitness before his country's crucial World Cup play-off matches, the club said. Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo won "substantial" libel damages on Monday over a newspaper report saying he went on a drink-fueled "bender" in a Hollywood nightclub. The Daily Mirror reported in July last year that Ronaldo, who does not drink alcohol, had gone on a drinking binge despite the fact that he was on crutches, recovering from an ankle operation.
