Since we have officially embarked upon the campaign season, this Wikizine will focus on the presidential campaign. Included will be thoughts, ideas, articles, and updates on what's happening as we get closer to November 08.
The Wikizine is intended to as a political venue with a focus on African-American women voters. It has been said by CNN, ABC, FOX, CBS, and print media as well, that our vote could very well determine not only the Democratic nominee for president - but the President of the UNITED STATES. That is an awesome challenge - but a challenge that we are no doubt up for.
This Wikizine is also a tribute to the African-American women who fought and even died to make our vote count and possible. Like Sojourner said over 100 years ago "Ain't I a Woman?".
Democratic Lawyer: Lawsuit Over Top Two Primary Possible (Oregon Public Broadcasting) In a top two primary the two candidates with the most votes advance - even if they’re from the same party.
Thanks to a comment from Dan Meek, an Independent Party spokesperson and Portland attorney, (an independent partisan par excellence...) for bringing attention to the issue in Oregon about open primaries relative to third parties. With all due respect Dan, it's not that I'm not aware of the...
Courtney Terry, a mom and grad student in Little Rock, Arkansas, came to independent politics because she didn't feel comfortable in a partisan world--and a world that so readily accepts poverty as a norm. She is organizing a caucus of independents to talk about next steps and has been...
According to the independentvoting.org website, the Committee for a Unified Independent Party (CUIP) is holding statewide non-partisan caucuses of independent voters in the following states: STATE CAUCUS DATES (please check back regularly for updates) * * * Arizona – Grand Canyon Independent...
One of the stupidest anti-impeachment arguments from Democrats like Jerrold Nadler is "we won't get 67 votes in the Senate to convict and remove Bush or Cheney, so we shouldn't bother to start impeachment hearings in the House."
Nadler and other Democrats who cite this idiocy have forgotten...
Here we go, they have started to sling mud. A new attack ad has been launched blaming Barack Obama for the rise in crime in Chicago. According to the Chicago Tribune, murders have risen about 18 percent over a year ago in the Windy City. But, the Republicans have chosen to blame Barack Obama...
Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign in Georgia spent the weekend training more than 2,500 volunteers for a statewide push to register voters and boost Election Day turnout, a massive grass-roots mobilization that is part of the campaign's national strategy to drive up the mostly Democratic...
Senior state Democrats met privately Monday at the Governor's Mansion to discuss election strategy for Colorado and delivering its nine electoral votes to Barack Obama.
Trying to put their steep financial advantage over House Republicans to good use, House Democrats have initiated extensive voter contact programs to fortify their own candidates and simultaneously assist Senator Barack Obama in areas where he might struggle with blue-collar voters.
This quote - in an article about how black Republicans are torn about whom to support in the United States presidential election - caught my eye: "A minority within a minority – only 4 percent of African-Americans are Republicans – this small group has been heatedly debating their divided...
Guest blogged by Phil Munger:
In Alaska, the state tied most closely to corruption, two credible candidates have emerged to challenge the structural problems that led to so much unbridled fraud and naked venality. On the Right, current Governor Sarah Palin emerged two years ago, to challenge...
This summer, the entire Republican Party agenda has been reduced to a single word: drill.
Republicans absurdly insist that ending the moratorium on offshore drilling would immediately reduce oil and gasoline prices, even though it would take a decade for the first drop of offshore oil to...
I have always been very critical of the high crime rates in the inner cities and poor areas across this country and the personal responsibility each resident has in fighting for their communities. Hat tip to Tom Smith of DeMar Logistics for sending Black Political Thought an email about a very...
Devil is in the details for independent voters Broadcast: Midmorning, 08/13/2008, 9:06 a.m. Midmorning examines the role of independent voters in the upcoming election, and how well the candidates are speaking to them. New research suggests that detailed messages will not win the hearts of this...
It was certainly great to hear that Latinos are leaning towards Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential elections. Latinos had voted nearly two-to-one for Senator Hillary Clinton, fueling a great deal of speculation that they were not going to vote for a black candidate. According to a recent...
