Alexandra Owen at Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2009

Like many others, when I'm destroyed by a serious cold, I beach myself in front of the TV with a box full of tissues and don't move for hours. When I eventually feel well enough to pad into the bathroom for a shower or to fix myself some soup, I realize with great disgust that I've left a litter of wadded up tissues in my wake. When I look at the model above I feel overwhelmed with precisely that sensation, perhaps because a. she looks sick and disheveled thanks to some stunningly unflattering makeup and b. her shirt looks like a giant tissue.

Something tells me avant garde designer Alexandra Owen of New Zealand isn't trying to appeal to a huge audience. Her designs at Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2009 were strangely nightmarish, as if they belonged in a Tim Burton movie (that isn't exactly mean to be negative criticism).
