Alan Cumming rumoured for Green Goblin role in Spider-Man musical

FROM blue-skinned demon to bright-green goblin - that's the comic-book career path of Alan Cumming if reports are true.

The New York Post claims that Cumming is in line to play the evil Green Goblin in Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark.

Cumming, 44, is best known to superhero fans for his role playing mutant Kurt Wagner, aka the devil-tailed, demonic-looking teleporter Nightcrawler (pictured right) in X2: X-Men United.

The tabloid said the Scottish actor had been seen at a production meeting for the musical, checking out the costume designs.

It added that veteran producers had speculated that Cumming's likely fee for the role would be in the region of $15,000 a week.

Green Goblin, who wears a green mask and costume and flies around by standing on a hi-tech glider, is the villainous alter-ego of Norman Osborn, who gains superhuman abilities after taking a human enhancement serum.

He was played by Willem Dafoe in the Spider-Man movies (see image at top) with the character's embittered son Harry (James Franco) taking over the mantle as New Goblin in the third movie.
