Alcatraz Island

This island has one of the most colorful histories imaginable. Situated in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, which has an important history in its own right, the small island has been home to a Civil War ...  

To think of Alcatraz is to think of Al Capone, sharks and rumored but unverified escapes.  

Carlie Jansen, 13, of Agoura Hills, recently completed in the 2008 Alcatraz Invitation Swim, where participants are dropped off at Alcatraz Island and swim back approximately 1.5 miles to the shore at Aquatic Park in the San Francisco Bay.  

Everyone is invited to attend the annual Sun-Rise Gathering at Alcatraz Island on Monday, October 13th, 2008 (State Holiday) on Alcatraz Island, San Francisco Bay, to commemorate 516 years (1492-2008) of Indigenous Peoples Resistance to Colonization in the Americas!
