Oregon catches its key win in Rose Bowl by 45-38 over Wisconsin

After several years Ducks outlast Wisconsin Badgers to grant Coach C hip Kelly his first victory in a BCS bowl game, and win the Rose Bowl for the first time in 95 years.

Oregon Ducks fans can cheer and relax, because the Ducks have won Rose Bowl since 1917. This team lost the National Championship previous year and the Rose Bowl two years ago, but they defeat the Wisconsin Badgers 45-38 yesterday.

Forget the debate to end the game, the clock ran down, and the probability of Wisconsin scoring a touchdown on the play was very low. It’s hard not to feel for a team that came so close, but the Ducks were the better team in this one.

Oregon’s season began with a loss to Louisiana State, which will play Alabama next Monday night in New Orleans for the BCS title.

USC sideswiped Oregon’s probability of earning a rematch by beat the Ducks in November.

But Oregon still had plenty to play for in the Rose Bowl, especially with critics saying that Chip Kelly, Oregon coach could not triumph a big postseason game.

Oregon outlasted Big Ten Conference champion Wisconsin in the highest-scoring game in Rose Bowl history.

The outcome was not decided until officials ruled that time had expired before Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson point the ball with the hope of running one more play from Oregon’s 25-yard line.

Oregon’s first Rose Bowl victory in 95 years put the finishing touches on a 12-2 season.

Kelly, who has a record of 34-6 in three seasons at Oregon, continued to play down the personal significance of the victory.

Oregon’s defense also came up with several big plays, none more important than a fumble forced by cornerback Terrance Mitchell and recovered by linebacker Michael Clay with four minutes left.
