Amir Khan is set to defend his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles in a match against American Lamont Peterson. The match will take place in Washington D.C. on December 10th.
27 year-old Peterson is the mandatory IBF challenger and has 29 of his 31 fights. The only defeat he has suffered was two years ago against Timothy Bradley in California.
When speaking of his upcoming bout against Peterson, Khan stated, “I know Lamont is a strong contender but it doesn’t matter that I’m fighting him in his back yard.
I’m coming in as a champion and I will leave as champion.”
Khan’s most recent defense of his belts on American soil was in Las Vegas against American Zab Judah in July. This will be the third time the British fighter has fought in America.
Khan, who has only lost one of his 27 fights said, “I always said I wanted to be active and a true world champion and I will prove it on 10 December.”
When discussing his upcoming bout against Khan, Peterson, who was born in Washington D.C. said, “I respect Khan for his accomplishments and as a champion, but this is something that goes beyond all that.
“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for my entire career, and to win a world title at home is something that I will remember forever.
“On 10 December, I will make my dreams come true and ruin Amir’s plans to reign over his division.”
The chief executive of Golden Boy, Richard Schrieffer has confirmed that the fight will be held at the Washington D.C. Convention Center.
After discovering President Barack Obama is a huge fan of boxing, Khan invited the President to attend the fight ring-side as he defends his titles.
