The American screen star says intruders broke into the lavish pad she shares with actor beau James Tupper last week although it was not clear whether anyone was home at the time.

She told TV show host David Letterman how her son Homer from a previous marriage was left upset by the break-in.

The 41-year-old blonde, who starred in the remake of Psycho and now appears in US TV drama Hung, was a guest on the popular chat show on Thursday night.

‘Our summer has been so boring except that last week our house was robbed,’ she said.

‘It’s awful. There’s nothing in it now. Computers and ipods have gone. I don’t know if they knew whose house it was but now they do.’

When asked if she and Tupper, who have a one-year-old son Atlas together, would now sell the house, she replied, ‘Absolutely not. We’ll just buy more stuff and put it in there.’
