Bourdain Vs. Deen: Round 2!

Chefs are notoriously known for being stubborn, loud, and brutal in their opinions. Is it any wonder that two foodies with egos as big as Anthony Bourdain and Paula Deen are quarrelling again?

Deen, a staple on The Food Network who unapologetically cooks up high-calorie, high-octane dishes, recently announced the news that she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  Within hours of the announcement, Bourdain took to the Internet.  “Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later,” he tweeted.

It seems like an innocuous comment from the “No Reservations” star, but Bourdain has taken shots at Deen and her blatantly artery-clogging recipes before.  At one point Bourdain came out saying that Deen’s attitude towards cooking put her in the running as the “most dangerous person to America,” referencing her utilization of globs of butter and deep-fryers on her cooking show.

Shortly after Bourdain posted the tweet, Deen responded with a short and sweet “get a life.”

As of viewer of both Dean and Bourdain’s show, I have to say that neither of them have room to talk.  Though Deen’s recipes are saturated with butter, sugar, and other ingredients best used sparingly (5-cheese mac’n’cheese, anyone?), Bourdain, up until recently, was a chain-smoker and consistently indulges on fatty foods on his show.  One could argue that Bourdain’s choice of food is not up to him on ”No Reservations,” as his show is less a cooking show and more a travel one, but even that argument seems somewhat flimsy.

Regardless of whose side you take here, it’s hardly surprising that someone like Deen would be diagnosed with diabetes when every meal is slathered in butter, but Bourdain should probably check himself from time to time because though cigarettes don’t have any calories, they also hold no nutritional value.
