The battle was between the Union of 87,000 men against the Confederacy 45,000 men. The Union (North) consider this battle to be “The battle of Antietam”. The Confederacy on the other hand consider this to be “The Battle of Sharpsburg”. I am very interested in why the Union call it Antietam and the Confederacy call it Sharpsburg. Please help me and give your opinions!
