Despite the fact that the capital city outfit are currently second in Ligue 1, rumours are rife that the club’s Qatari owners, who invested heavily in the squad in recent months, are ready to fire Kombouare. There was a report on Sunday evening claiming PSG had sacked Kombouare to pave the way for the imminent arrival of Rafael Benitez, however, the Frenchman still remains in charge for now.
Pauleta is hoping that Kombouare holds on to his job, believing that sacking the coach at this juncture would destabilise the team.
"Changing a coach [now], it would not be normal,” he told France Football. “He has done a good job.
“He can take the team far. We must give him time [and] let him work quietly and calmly.
"Although Montpellier, Lille and Lyon are going strong, PSG are above the lot,” the now-retired 38-year-old claimed. “I see PSG as champions.”
Kombouare was appointed as PSG coach in 2009 after a relatively successful five-year stint with Valenciennes.
